Dental Hygiene

Brush/Floss

While at our office, we make sure that you receive the highest level of service and ensure that our dental work is of the highest quality.  To ensure that you maintain great oral health, this level of quality needs to extend into your personal oral hygiene routine. We can help you establish a dental hygiene routine that will keep your teeth healthy and white. If you have any questions about your current hygiene plan please ask us.

Your teeth are not the only important part of your mouth. Your gums are essential to oral hygiene as well. During your 6 month and 1 year check-ups the dentist and hygienists will do a thorough exam of the entire oral cavity (teeth, gums, soft tissue, and hard tissues).  This exam will identify any areas needing treatment whether it be dental sealants, areas of decay, tooth replacement, possible oral cancer, or any conditions requiring further treatment.

Part of this appointment with the hygienist includes a dental prophylaxis.  The hygienist will  remove plaque and other irritants from the oral cavity.  As deposits build on your teeth, they form tartar, which can build up and create much worse problems for your teeth.  If you have a history of periodontal disease or are exhibiting signs and symptons of periodontal disease you may need a more specialized type of dental cleaning.  Some patients may need these cleanings due to having developed "pockets" which are spaces between the teeth and gums where plaque and tartar can form.  Our hygienists can provide periodontal cleanings and treatment, or we can refer you to one of our recommended specialists. Please let us know if you have any questions.
